Coral Reef — from plankton to sharks

Science Center Coral Reef  is a educational project, designed for families. Visitors to the exhibition will find out why coral reef and its inhabiting fish are so brightly and beautifully painted. How dangerous sharks are and who predates on them. Who and what the main dangers on a coral reef are.

The exhibition is unusual. We created a “real world” of coral reef. The main part of the exhibition is an interactive 3D Oceanarium. For the first time visitors will be able to interact and control the 3D monitors themselves.



What is interactive 3D Oceanarium?

3D Aquarium consist of several demonstration booths. In this embodiment — 5.

Each display stand — a 3 television screen — the monitor. The largest of them — 55» located in the middle and another two  (47»), arranged at the sides at an angle to the center monitor. The angle is chosen so that all three of the screen can be viewed from a single point, like a mirror dressing table.

Significant objects in the 3D display are presented in the form of hyperlinks.

At the central 55» screen is the main action, 47» are auxiliary. Objects attached to hyperlinks open on these monitors. This could be an enlargement of objects or other angles, as well as texts, pictures, short presentations, etc.


At the central monitor are also two cursors — red and blue. A tooltip appears while you are hovering at interactive object. We can open a hyperlink on the left monitor by clicking on the active object with red cursor. By clicking on the highlighted object with blue cursor, we open the hyperlink  on the right 47» monitor.

This would happen at the same time. Two people in the audience can move the arrow on the 55» screen, select, and click on the hyperlink to open their objects of interest.

The entire 3D exhibition  integrated by single concept. The audience,  passing  successively from one booth to another, constantly receive new information.

Immersed in a virtual underwater space, viewers can see details of its inhabitants — from the emergence of the first coral polyps in the ocean to their present state.


We all originated from the ocean, and now live at the bottom of an ancient sea.

Its fossilised remains are abundant and can be found in many places. Even in the Moscow Metro. Beneath Moscow there remains a “Devonian sea” and we will show you its inhabitants.

A separate part of the exhibition is “Water Lab”. Where you can learn from your own experience why sharks drown and other fish swim. Why it is dark underwater. What we hear underwater and how marine creatures use electricity. And why objects in the water seem bigger than on a surface. You will learn how due to the anomalies of properties of water life began on our planet.

The section «Man and the Sea» explains how people began to scuba dive and how easy and safe it is to do these days for recreation.


The difference from traditional forms

Viewers can see the real picture of the underwater world, not artificially recreated as in a conventional aquarium.

3D Interactive Oceanarium is focused on a deeper and more detailed introduction to the underwater world. This is different from traditional aquariums where  viewers could be surprised by «large forms» — sharks, stingrays, etc.

At the same time, excursion in interactive 3D Oceanarium is not a collective TV watch in the room. Using interactive technology, the viewer becomes an accomplice of the process.

Regularly updated exhibition shows how and what changes in the underwater world at a particular reef.

Project of 3D Oceanarium is designed for small rooms, about 400 -1000 m. meters, with a design of attendance 500 — 2000 people a day.

The project is a mobile and international, which makes it affordable for small cities, virtually all countries of the world.

В детстве однажды мне случайно достался один номер журнала Aqua. Непонятно как он оказался в те времена в Москве. Неясно также выпускается ли он до сих пор. Поиск в гугле выдает только журнал про бассейны.  Как бы то ни было, тот номер журнала я зачитала до дыр и хранила как драгоценность. До сих пор помню содержание наизусть: дневник красного лосося, загрязнение Арктики нефтью. А в конце номера была серия подводных фотографий. Я просто не могла поверить, что это возможно! Это был абсолютно другой мир. О том, что существуют люди, работа которых заключается в том, чтобы нырять и снимать подводный мир, я узнала тогда впервые. Ничего интереснее в целом мире не было и быть не могло. Но, на двор стоял конец 80-х, страна погружалась в перестройку и первая возможность осуществить свою детскую мечту представилась не так скоро. Только в 2004 году я решила бросить все и уехать на Синай, в Египет, зная точно только одно — я буду нырять и снимать все, что там есть под водой. Так и случилось.
